A Lagos-based man has accused a police officer of damaging his car.
As contained in a post shared on X on Wednesday, the man whose identity could not be confirmed recounted how the officer had allegedly stoned his car along Fagba Railway in Oko-Oba area of Lagos state, breaking his rear chrome in the process.
The incident which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday led to altercation between the police and man as captured in a video attached to the post.
“This Morning Around 4:30am, Near Fagba Railway in Lagos, I Encountered four Police officers.
“They Had Stopped About three cars on the railway, but none of them stopped me.
“I had already driven past them when I suddenly heard a loud noise at the back of my car.
“One of the officers picked up a stone from the ground and threw it at my car, hitting it and breaking my rear chrome.” The man reportedly said.
He further recounted stepping out of the car to challenge the officer who he suspected to have hurled the stone.
He alleged that the officer appeared drunk and aggressive after being approached.
“I stepped down from the car and noticed the officer appeared drunk.
“I asked him why he would do that as a professional Police officer.
“Instead of responding calmly, he became aggressive and started fighting me”. The man added.
The video attached to the post captured moment of the altercation with the officer seen charging towards the man in an attempt to confiscate his phone for recording him.
Confirming the development to NPO Reports in a telephone conversation, the Oko-Oba Divisional Police Officer, CSP Aliyu Kawunda, disclosed that the officer involved in the altercation has been invited by the authorities with the case currently under investigation.
“To the best of my knowledge, I was not actually aware of the incident until when the video was going round this morning.
“The authority to must have seen the video. The men in question have been invited for interview at the headquarters. The matter is currently under investigation by the authorities.” Kawunda said.
