Embraces Court’s Call for Reconciliation, Settlement of Leadership Crisis
- Safiu Kehinde
The Tanimu Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) has rejected the Court of Appeal’s ruling on the party’s National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
NPO Reported that the appellate court had on Monday upheld the Federal High Court ruling which barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising the November 2025 National Convention.
In the wake of the Appeal Court’s judgement, the PDP BoT, chaired by Adolphus Wabara, held an expanded emergency meeting on Wednesday.
The BoT in its resolutions contained in a communique issued after meeting disagreed with the appellate court’s ruling.
While admitting to the leadership crisis within the party, the board embraced the court’s call for the reconciliation and settlement of the crisis.
“The BoT disagrees with the judgment of the Court of Appeal which pronounced an invalidation of the November 15th to 16th 2025 National Convention that produced the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee of our Party.
“The BoT is awaiting the advice of our lawyers on the way forward in this regard.
“The BoT is disturbed by the avoidable internal leadership disputes and wranglings leading to damaging litigations with consequential detrimental effect on the unity and smooth running of the PDP as the major opposition party in the country.
“The Board however acknowledges and resolved to explore the window provided by the Court of Appeal, Ibadan Division for reconciliation within the party.” The communique partly read.
Meanwhile, the factional PDP BoT confirmed its awareness of members with ambition to contest for positions in the 2027 general elections.
The board said it has taken step towards ending the dispute within the party as it announced the establishment of a special committee to foster the reconciliation.
“The BoT is conscious of the interest and aspiration of our members who are desirous of contesting various positions in the 2027 general elections.
“Conscious of the onus on the BoT as the conscience and third highest leadership Organ of the Party, the Board is resolved to take immediate steps to reconcile all stakeholders, put an end to all disputes and restore the party to good political health, particularly to enable the PDP field candidates in the 2027 general elections.
“The BoT constitutes a special Committee to immediately interface with the legal teams and any other stakeholders to foster reconciliation within the party.” The statement read further.
This reverberated the plea of former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who urged all leaders and stakeholders in the PDP to bury the hatchet and accept the Court of Appeal verdict.
NPO Reported that Saraki had earlier today advised all the leaders of the party to see the Appeal Court decision as an end to all litigations and hold a fresh national convention that will comply with all INEC guidelines.
Saraki however warned that failure to put their differences aside while waiting for Supreme Court’s ruling may jeopardise the chances of the party having candidates ahead of the 2027 election.
In what appeared like a partial heed to the ex-Senate’s President’s advice, the PDP BoT called on all leaders and members of the party to jettison all personal and group interests and come together as one family in the overall interest of the PDP and the wellbeing of millions of Nigerians whose hope are anchored on the party,
It urged Nigerians not to be dispirited but remain hopeful as the PDP works hard in repositioning itself for the task of salvaging the nation from the stranglehold of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
