The Minister of Defense, Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd), has revealed reason behind the intensified attacks on military bases across the country by terrorists’ group despite ongoing Ramadan fasting.
Musa disclosed that the intensified attacks are borne out of the terrorists’ extremist ideology of going straight to heaven if killed during the Ramadan period.
The Minister made this known while addressing newsmen after holding an emergency meeting with all service chiefs in Abuja.
As captured in a video shared on X on Friday, Musa described the increased attack as a normal thing experienced by the military during the fasting period.
“It is usual with the terrorists during Ramadan period. For them, they feel when they die, they are going to heaven. So, they are ready to commit any offence to get to killed because they feel they have reward.” He said.
The former Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) however maintained that the military had recorded success in its recent operations against the insurgents.
He disclosed that some of the terrorists’ commanders have been killed with their assets recovered.
Musa assured Nigerians of the President Bola Tinubu’s effort in curtailing the spread of insecurity across the country.
“Like I said, we have adjusted our strategies. You can see in the past few days, we have taken over those locations. We killed their commanders and take over their assets.
“We will continue to do more. And I assure you as approved by Mr. President, so many things are coming on our line.
“And we are working together as a team. As you can see, all members of the security forces are here to assure Nigerians and Mr. President that we are no track and we will succeed.”He added.
