The return of the House of Representatives’ Public Accounts Committee Chairman, Bamidele Salami, to the green chamber after the expiration of his current tenure is currently on the brink as the Osun state lawmaker faces opposition over his third term bid.
This is coming under the heels of a statement issued on Friday by a group of stakeholders and indigenes of Ejigbo, dismissing the endorsement of Bamidele for re-election.
The group maintained that the endorsement does not reflect the will of the people over the lawmaker representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.
It held that it is the turn of Ejigbo to choose a representative for the constituency at the green chamber.
“The attention of concerned stakeholders and progressive sons and daughters of Ejigbo has been drawn to the misleading claim allegedly credited to Hon. Bamidele Salami that Ejigbo has endorsed him for a third term in the House of Representatives.
“This claim does not reflect the true position, feelings, and collective aspiration of the good people of Ejigbo.
“For the sake of fairness, equity, and political balance within the federal constituency, Ejigbo people have continued to agitate and strongly insist that it is now their rightful turn to produce the next member of the House of Representatives.” The statement partly read.
The Ejigbo indigenes called for justice, inclusion, and respect for zoning arrangements that promote unity and peaceful coexistence among communities as they warn against propagating endorsement narratives that is not the will of the people.
“The persistent circulation of unverified endorsement narratives is capable of causing political tension and undermining the genuine yearnings of the grassroots.
“Ejigbo has competent, credible, and capable leaders who are ready to provide quality representation, attract meaningful development, empower the youth, and give stronger voice to the needs of the constituency at the national level.
“We therefore call on political actors to refrain from spreading information that does not emanate from the collective decision of the people.” The statement added.
