Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdusalam-Gwarzo, has resigned from his role amid political tension over his refusal to align with the state’s Governor, Abba Kabir.
NPO Reported that Abba had last month announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The move had triggered political tension in the stste with Abdulsalam-Gwarzo’s reluctance to follow his principal getting him trapped in the middle of the heat.
While he was advised to resign amid the tension, the Kano State House of Assembly would earlier this month initiate an impeachment plot against him.
Abdulsalam-Gwarzo eventually bowed to the pressure as he announced his voluntary resignation in a letter issued on Friday.
The Kano Deputy Governor said he came to the decision following careful consultations and deep reflection of the prevailing circumstances.
“I, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, hereby tender my voluntary resignation from office, with effect from 27th March 2026, pursuant to Section 306 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
“This decision has been reached after careful consultations and deep reflection, guided by my current experience, commitment to the peace, stability, and overall interest of the good people of Kano State.
“In view of the prevailing circumstances, I have taken this step in the spirit of responsibility and statesmanship, to allow the government and the State to move forward without undue distractions.” He wrote.
Gwarzo reiterated that his resignation was a voluntary decision and not to be considered as an admission of wrongdoing.
He expressed his gratitude to Kano indigenes, the state governor, and leadership of thr NNPP for the opportunity given to him to serve the state.
“This resignation is made voluntarily and in good faith. It should not be construed as an admission of any wrongdoing, but rather as a conscious decision in the interest of institutional integrity, democratic values, and public service.
“I remain deeply grateful to the good people of Kano State for the honour and privilege of serving as Deputy Governor.
“I also extend my appreciation to Your Excellency, members of the State Executive Council, the Kano State House of Assembly, our dear party the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), traditional institutions, and all stakeholders for their support and cooperation during my tenure.
“Please accept the assurances of my highest regards.” Gwarzo added.
