The Chairman of the South-West Governors Forum and Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his 74th birthday, joining other leaders across the region.
In a statement issued on Saturday through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu described President Tinubu, who turns 74 on Sunday, as a rare gift to Nigeria and humanity at large, noting that his decades of political engagement have continued to shape governance, democracy, and development in the country.
He said Tinubu’s leadership style reflects clarity of purpose and deep commitment to national progress, adding that his tenure as President has contributed to renewed confidence in government and strengthened hope among citizens under the “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
According to the Governor, President Tinubu has consistently demonstrated what he called tested and trusted leadership, anchored on bold decision-making and a willingness to confront Nigeria’s economic and structural challenges. He said the President’s reforms and policies have continued to steer the country toward long-term stability and growth.
Sanwo-Olu further described Tinubu as a statesman whose political journey has left a lasting imprint on Lagos State and the South-West, recalling his tenure as Governor of Lagos State, which he said laid the foundation for the modern development and economic transformation of the state. He referred to him as the “father of modern Lagos,” whose governance model continues to serve as a reference point across Nigeria.
He added that President Tinubu’s influence extends beyond regional politics, describing him as a detribalised leader whose reach and leadership style cut across all parts of the country. According to him, the President’s efforts in nation-building have touched millions of lives and continue to shape the direction of national development.
Sanwo-Olu, speaking on behalf of his wife, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the government and people of Lagos State, as well as members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, extended warm birthday wishes to the President, praying for continued strength, wisdom, and good health.
He said: “President Tinubu is an enigmatic, tested and trusted politician who has devoted a significant part of his life to public service. His democratic credentials and governance philosophy reflect a deep commitment to building a better Nigeria.”
He further praised the President for what he described as transparent and courageous leadership, saying Tinubu has continued to take bold and sometimes difficult decisions in the interest of national progress.
