The spokesman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, outlining what he described as failures in governance in a message marking the president’s 74th birthday.
In the birthday message posted on X, Abdullahi said Nigerians are reflecting on the impact of Tinubu’s administration, raising concerns about economic hardship, insecurity, and the state of the country’s democracy.
He noted that fuel prices have increased sharply under the current administration, leading to higher transportation costs and worsening living conditions for many citizens.
According to him, the rising cost of living has placed significant strain on Nigerian households, with many struggling to meet basic needs.
On security, the ADC spokesman claimed that Nigeria’s position on the Global Terrorism Index has declined, while incidents of violence continue to affect communities across the country. He said insecurity has persisted and evolved, with inadequate response from authorities.
Abdullahi also raised concerns about political developments, warning that the country’s democratic space appears to be narrowing. He noted that this trend could lead to fears of a one-party system if not addressed.
Despite the criticism, the statement acknowledged the symbolic nature of birthdays as moments for reflection.
He therefore urged the president to reassess his approach to governance in his remaining time in office, calling for greater accountability and responsiveness to national challenges.
