Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu has described as fake, reports circulating that he has submitted his letter of resignation.
The reports circulating followed a resignation letter purportedly tendered to the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) on Tuesday by Adelabu.
The Minister had in the said letter expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for entrusting him with the role as he announced his resignation.
“I write with profound gratitude to Your Excellency to formally tender my resignation from my position as the Honourable Minister of Power, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“I wish to sincerely thank Your Excellency for the confidence reposed in me and the opportunity given to serve our great nation under your administration.
“It has been a privilege contributing to the efforts aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s power sector in line with your Renewed Hope Agenda.” The letter.
Adelabu allegedly cited his aspiration to contest for the Oyo Governorship seat as reason behind his resignation.
“My decision to resign is to enable me fully pursue my aspiration to contest for the office of Governor of Oyo State and to dedicate my time and resources to that endeavour.
“Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest respect and appreciation.” The letter added.
Meawhile, Adelabu’s Special Adviser on Media, Bolaji Tunji, circulated the purported statement with the fake stamp.
When asked to confirm when his boss would resign, another aide of the minister said he was not certain of the time Adelabu would resign from office to pursue his much touted governorship ambition.
The aide who pleaded anonymity said he was sure the Minister would make information available at the appropriate time.
The speculation is coming under the heels of the deadline set by President Bola Tinubu for members of his cabinent seeking to contest in the 2027 General Elections to resign.
NPO Reported that Tinubu had two weeks ago given all political appointees eyeing the 2027 elections to resign on or before March 31, this year.
