President Bola Tinubu would on Saturday cross paths with former President Olusegun Obasanjo as they both met at the commissioning of the Gateway International Airport in Ilisan Remo, Ogun state.
Tinubu had arrived in Ogun state for the commissioning of the project, an event initially slated to hold Thursday but was suspended on account of the President’s trip to Plateau state.
On arrival, Tinubu would be received by state governors and political stakeholders of the state who had arrived earlier at the airport.
Also joining the entourage was Obasanjo who, as seen in a video shared on X, was cladded in a traditional Adire attire bearing Tinubu’s logo.
On sighting the former President, Tinubu bowed to Obasanjo as he shook his hands.
Meanwhile, former Ogun governor, Olusegun Osoba, could be heard telling Tinubu to check Obasanjo shoe as evidence of the ex-president’s refusal to admit being old which stirred laughter from others present at the airport.
Recall that the duo had in the past engaged in fierce power tussle and feud particularly during Tinubu’s tenure as Lagos state governor.
Obasanjo was renowned then for his infamous decision to withdraw Federal Government Allocation of Lagos state over Tinubu’s creation of the Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in defiance to the former President’s warning in 2005.
Meanwhile, the exchange between the duo at the airport had sparked mixed reaction from netizen with some considering Tinubu’s gesture as sheer display of Yoruba’s stance of respect for elders.
Some however slammed the President, labeling his gesture as political gimmicks and optics for 2027 General election while calling him out over the state of insecurity and economic hardship in the country.
