Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of being used in destroying Nigeria’s democracy.
Atiku made the allegation during his address at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Convention in Abuja on Tuesday.
The ex-Vice President called out the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, over alleged illegalities- an allegation which stemmed out of the commission’s derecognition of the ADC leadership in compliance with court’s order.
Atiku vowed that the party will fight to revive democracy in the country.
“INEC is being used to scuttle democracy in this country.
“Now, let the Federal Government know that we fought the military to bring democracy in this country. We are going to fight them to bring democracy again.
“Let the Chairman know that we are not going to let him get away with his illegalities.
“We will not and I know we have your support in cooperation to make we return to true democracy and development in all aspect of human endeavour.” He said.
Earlier in his address, Atiku decried alleged deterioration of Nigeria’s socio-economic growth.
He claimed to have joined the ADC to bring about sincere change as he ruled out the chances of the ADC condoning corruption under its administration.
“Our economy, sovereignty, security, education, infrastructure, and healthcare have all gone.
“We must rise and make sure that there is change and a genuine change. People of my own generation are in this game because of you young men and women.
“The country has been good to us, but we don’t believe that this country is being good to the current generation.
“That is why are today in ADC to bring about sincere change. Believe me, you cannot get away with corruption in the government of the ADC.
“You cannot get away compromising with criminals and terrorists to make life impossible in this country.” He said.
