Sen. Osita Ngwu, the Senate Minority Whip, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmaker representing Enugu West Senatorial District announced his defection in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, at plenary on Wednesday.
Ngwu in his letter said that he was resigning from the PDP that sponsored his election to the senate to APC due to internal crisis in the party.
He said: “I write to notify the distinguished senate of my resignation from PDP and also notification of my membership of the APC.”
The Senate Minority Whip said that the crisis in the PDP has made it impossible for him to actualise the aspirations of his senatorial district.
“Consequently, I have chosen to align myself with the progressive values of the APC, the only stable platform currently in Nigeria and to support the empowering agenda of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and my state governor, who is also in APC.
“I offer my sincere gratitude to the former PDP and wish the party were able to put its house in order.” He said.
Also following the red chamber’s leader is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, Sen. Aliyu Wadada, who formally announced his defection from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the APC.
His defection was announced in a letter also read by Akpabio at plenary.
Meanwhile, Ngwu’s defection to the APC saw him step down from his role as the Senate Minority Whip as Akpabio announced Sen.Tony Nwoye (ADC-Anambra) as his replacement.
