The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, the lawmaker representing Osun East Senatorial District, over his death threat against Accord Party members in Osun state.
NPO Reported that Fadahunsi had in a viral video shared on social media on Tuesday charged supporters of the All Progressives Congress in Ilesa and its environs to kill any member of the Accord Party, starting from the moment of his statement till the end of the conduct of the August 15 governorship election.
This had sparked public outrage with calls for the lawmaker’s arrest.
The state governor, Ademola Adeleke, had also raised alarm over the threat, accusing Fadahunsi of inciting genocide as he called on the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to arrest the lawmaker.
Reacting in a letter dated August 11, 2026, the police invited Fadahunsi to clarify the circumstances surrounding the statements.
The letter, signed by the Commissioner of Police, Elections, in Osun State, Samuel Etaifo Erale, directed the senator to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo on Wednesday, August 12, at 11:00 a.m.
According to the letter, the invitation was based on information available to the Nigeria Police alleging that the senator made statements considered threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature.
“The invitation is premised on information in possession of the Nigeria Police alleging that during your address at the aforementioned programme, you made statements considered to be threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature, and the statement has already been in circulation on various electronic and social media platforms,” the letter stated.
Meanwhile, Fadahunsi had in the wake of the backlash recanted his statement, stressing that he was misinterpreted.
The lawmaker, in a separate statement issued by his media team, claimed to have only charged the APC members to kill the Accord Party with their votes at the poll.
