The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The governor formalised his defection at the Bauchi Government House on Saturday, after obtaining his membership card, alongside members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Tanimu Turaki-led executives.
“After extensive consultation, we have taken a firm and strategic decision to join the Allied Peoples Movement (APM),” the Bauchi governor, 67, told the gathering.
“This is guided by one overriding objective: to secure victory in both states and continue to serve our people with utmost integrity, effectively mobilise our supporters and present a coherent and credible alternative to the people,” he said.
NPO reports that the move followed a stakeholders’ meeting held earlier today
Explaining his decision, the governor said the move was necessary to secure a viable political platform for his supporters ahead of the next election cycle.
“With the 2027 elections approaching, we cannot allow our people to be without a credible and effective political platform,” he said.
He added that leadership requires providing direction and ensuring that political opportunities are not lost.
“Our duty is to provide energy and direction, while also ensuring that the opportunity available to all of us is not diminished,” Mohammed stated.
Until his defection, Mohammed served as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.
