Protesters have stormed MTN office in Abuja over high cost of data, demanding urgent action to address the rising cost of internet services.
The protest was led by the #RevolutionNow movement with Precious Oruche aka Mama Pee spotted among the protesters.
In a viral video posted on X, the protesters were seen chanting “MTN Ole” at the gate of an MTN office.
Addressing newsmen, Mama Pee urged more Nigerians to join in the protest.
She decried the high cost of data subscription, disclosing how she spent N11,000 on data every two days.
“I will advise every Nigerian to join this struggle because it affects our daily lives. How can I be paying N11,000 for data every two days? I’ve shown everyone here the receipt, this is theft.
“An amputated girl lost a job opportunity abroad because of the network was wavy.” She said.
Another activist accused MTN of colluding with the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) and the Ministry of Information in extorting Nigerians.
“They charge us plenty money for data and airtime and dey no dey give commensurate quantity of wetin we pay for. You go buy data wey be unlimited, but unlimited dey limt.
“You go buy data and when you think say you get data, you no go fit use am when you get important interview.
“MTN connive with the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) and the Ministry of Information upon the injustice wey dem they do Nigeria.
“That is why MTN fit pack Nigeria budget out of this country to South Africa every month. Nigeria no fit enjoy network like other people dey enjoy.” He said.
The activist whose name could not be confirmed as at the time of filing this report demanded an end to the exorbitant charges by the telecommunication company.
“If we continue to allow our government to connive with this same telecommunication company to defraud Nigeria when we know now say data na almost like fuel.
“Almost everybody wey dey online need data. So, if MTN continue to do us this wayo and we no talk, then he mean say our government no dey function.
“We demand MTN to stop all the bogus charges. We demand that MTN give us quality service.” He added.
