Protesters on Monday took to the streets of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to demand urgent action from the government over the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in the state.
The demonstration follows an earlier protest by teachers in Ogbomoso, where the kidnapping incident occurred. The teachers had called on authorities to intensify efforts to secure the release of the victims and improve security across the state.
During the protest , participants marched through the Mokola roundabout area of the city carrying placards.
Some of the messages read; “Every Life Matters, Stop the Kidnappers,” “47 Abducted, Scared and Alone,” and “Stand Up! Speak Out!” “GovernmentMustAct”
The protesters urged both the Oyo State Government and security agencies to take swift and decisive measures to tackle the growing insecurity and ensure the safe return of those abducted.
NPO Reports that on the 15th of May, suspected terrorists stormed Ahoro-Esinele Community High School abducting teachers and students of the school.
The insurgents further advanced to Yaota Baptists Nursery School and LA Nursery and Primary School where more teachers and their pupils were also abducted and have since been held in captivity.
