The Oyo State Chapter of the National Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed readiness to work with the state government in the ongoing effort to rescue the abducted schoolteachers and students.
Kayode Martins, the Oyo NLC Chairman made this known while addressing the state governor, Seyi Makinde and other government officials at the state secretariat on Tuesday.
Martins who spearheaded the protest by NLC members as well as members National Association of Nigerians (NANS) and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), at the state government house in Ibadan, maintained that they don’t want a repetition of the 2014 abduction of Chibok girls with 91 victims still largely missing.
“We are very much aware that Oyo State was peaceful until now. We are very much aware that the governor has the fear of workers. That is why they do what they did.
“I want you to send it back to them that we will do all that it takes to redeem our state. Some days ago, Chibok girls were captured and they were telling us that everything was under their control.
“Where are the Chibok girls today? We will not fold our hands and allow the same thing to repeat itself again.” He said in a video shared on X on Tuesday.
The NLC Chiamrn expressed the readiness to work with the government to ensure the safe rescue of the students and teachers.
“Those in captivity are wives, husbands, children of one household or the other. It is time we redeem Oyo State. We have nowhere to run to. I was born here. Peradventure, I will die here.
“So, we are here to tell you that we are aligning ourselves with your efforts to redeem the people in captivity.” He said.
