Emotions got the best of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, after his re-election victory as he burst into tears while speaking with his nephew and afrobeat singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
NPO Reported that Adeleke was on Sunday declared winner of the Saturday’s Governorship Election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission’s Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, announced the election result at the state collation centre in Osogbo.
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who recorded a total of 444,815 votes.
In the wake of the announcement, Davido pulled video call through to the governor who was at his residence where he was joined by family, friends, and associates for the announcement of the results.
Video capturing the moment showed Adeleke sobbing as Davido congratulated him.
The visibly emotional governor urged the singer to come home soon and hug him.
‘I’m coming on Monday. Enjoy your day and rest.’ Davido could be heard in the video before the governor handed the phone to his son and singer, Adebayo Adeleke, popularly known as B-Red.
Davido had over the years being a major backbone of Adeleke support group.
Ahead of the August 15 election, the governor appointed him as the Head of the youth’s’ mobilisation wing of the Imole Campaign Council.
The singer was actively engaged in the campaign activities for his uncle, holding press briefing and night concert to mobilise youths in Osun to support Adeleke’s re-election bid.
