The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate for the 2027 General Election, Peter Obi, has advised Nigerians not to vote for anyone who violates the Peace Accord.
Obi made this remark during an interview with newsmen at the Peace Accord Signing held in Abuja on Tuesday ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Speaking on the significance of the Peace Accord, Obi held that the signing ought not to be essential if election can be conducted free and fair.
However he charged Nigerians that whoever violated the peace accord should not be voted for.
”Nigerians should not vote for whoever violates the Peace Accord.” He said.
Obi also spoke on how leading by example is an essential part of assuming an office, stating every action must reflect the position one is aspiring for.
“We are seeking an office where we should be exemplary. You can’t answer His excellency without being an excellent person.
“So that process that would make you answer his excellency should be excellent and the only way to do it is conduct yourself excellently,” he said.
Speaking on the just concluded Osun State Governorship election held on Saturday, Obi urged that the lives lost during the election should not be forgotten and their loved ones should be consoled.
“Let us not forget those who died ensuring that the election in osun was achieved.
“We should visit them, condone their families and we should remain prayerful,” he said.
He emphasized on the fact that in a democratic society, people should not have to lose their lives for an election to be successful.
“We should conduct ourselves in a way that in our democracy, nobody needs to die for an election. It shouldn’t be, it’s painful and I wish it never happens again,” he said.
Talking on belief in the democratic system of Nigeria, Obi said that if he has to change it, he has to first believe in it.
“Because I want to change the process I have to go through it, so I have to believe in it,” he said.
During the interview, Obi also revealed that he has no fear in the upcoming general election but urged that the process should be smooth and every vote should count.
“I don’t have any fear except to say that please for the sake of the children of Nigeria, can we have an election where people’s vote will count,” he said.
