As 2027 Election Campaign Kicks Off

A group of youths have taken to the street in Kano in protest against the former governor of the state, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and his support group, the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
Videos shared on X on Wednesday showed the youths, alleged to be members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, setting ablaze the famous red cap of Kwakwanso.
While the actual cause of the youths’ public display could not be ascertained, some reports however claimed the action signalled crisis within the support group of the running mate to the Nigeria Democratic Congress 2027 Presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Some described the action as indication of the youth’s rejection of the Obi and Kwankwaso candidacy.
The incident which occurred in the wake of official commencement of campaign by political parties ahead of the 2027 election had also sparked mixed reactions from netizens with some labelling the video as AI-generated and defending the Obi Kwankwaso Movement while others trolled the NDC candidates.
