Members of the Nigerian Football Federation board led by Ibrahim Gusau have reportedly tendered their resignation following pressure on their leadership of the federation.
Gusau’s resignation, though yet to be officially confirmed, is coming weeks after the abysmal performance of the Super Falcons of Nigeria at the 2026 Women African Cup of Nations.
The Super Falcons who were crashed out of the tournament by Cameroon at the quarterfinals stage also failed revive their 2027 World Cup qualification hope as they lost the qualifiers to South Africa.
This marked the first time that the Super Falcons will fail to feature at the world cup.
Coupled with the men’s national team’s failure to also qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Super Falcons’ ordeal had sparked outrage from several Nigerians with calls for the overhaul of the NFF board.
Receiving the first axe was the Super Falcons coach, Justin Madugu, who was alongside his technical crew sacked by the NFFF.
This was however deemed insufficient as calls for Gusau’s resignation intensified.
Sources within the NFF would on Thursday disclose the resignation of the federation’s president and members of the NFF board.
