The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed the resignation of its President, Ibrahim Gusau.
NPO earlier Reported that Gusau had, according to sources within the federation, tendered his resignation amid pressure from the public which stemmed from the failure of the Nigerian women’s national team, Super Falcons, to secure the ticket for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The abysmal performance of the Super Falcons at the 2026 Women African Cup of Nations, where they were knocked out in the quarterfinals by Cameroon, and their defeat to South Africa in the World Cup qualification play-off mounted pressure on the Gusau-led NFF board.
With the Super Falcons poor outing leading to the sacking of coach Justin Madugu and his technical crew, attention had shifted to Gusau with calls for his resignation.
The NFF President would bow to the pressure as he earlier today tendered his resignation.
Confirming the development in a statement issued on its official X handle, the NFF said Gusau resigned alongside his Executive Committee and the General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi.
‘NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, alongside his Executive Committee and the General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, have resigned from their positions.’ The statement read.
