The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress has raised alarm over alleged plot by the Peoples Democratic Party’s Local Government Chairman and Councillors to invade the all the 30 council secretariats across the state.
APC alleged that the council executives have hired suspected political hoodlums to carry out the invasion on Thursday.
This was made known in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Osun APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi.
The spokesperson cited the victory of the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, as the motivating factor for the planned invasion billed to take place today.
Olabisi also alleged involvement of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees(NULGE) in the planned invasion.
‘Information has it that the illegally selected PDP local government council executives have employed the services of hardened and dangerous political hoodlums from within and outside the state to carry out the invasion any moment from now.
‘It is the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke that has emboldened the said illegally selected purported local government council chairmen to regroup for the invasion exercise.
‘Further investigation revealed that the illegal PDP local government council chairmen’s plan to use maximum force to take over the council secretariats was the outcome of a script designed by them in conjunction with the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees(NULGE) who have never hidden their readiness to be willing tools in the hands of the state government under the administration of Governor Adeleke.’ He wrote.
The Osun APC called for the intervention of the security operatives as it labelled the PDP executives as illegal council executives, citing the Supreme Court’s ru;ing.
‘The Supreme Court in its judgement on one of the suits instituted by the purported illegal PDP council executives had described them as unknown to the law of the land which would be making any legal challenge by them in the court of law as mere meddlesome interlopers.
‘We urge the state police command, the Department of State Services(DSS) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to take a proactive step on the plans of the illegally selected purported PDP council chairmen to plunge the state into avoidable crisis capable of rocking it to the foundation.
‘There is no tact and diplomacy in a set of hoodlums teaming up to promote disruption of public peace in the state on a matter that is still very much alive in the Court of Appeal.
‘It is unfortunate that some disgruntled elements under the guise of operating as purported local government council chairmen are all out to cause avoidable cataclysm in the state.’ Olabisi wrote.
The Osun APC spokesperson warned the PDP council chairmen against proceeding with the plan as he charged them to allow the pending suit in court to take its full course.
‘The affected purported PDP local government council chairmen need to go back to their drawing board and consult those thinking for them as their intended approach to invade the local government councils is only suitable and applicable to the jungle and not where the rules of law reigns supreme.
‘It would interest the illegally selected purported local government council chairmen that the usual thing for all the parties to the suit to do is to allow the suit to traverse the full cycle of the courts as stipulated by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.
‘Any step that the aggrieved purported PDP local government council chairmen may be taken other than the recourse to the court has no other name than a monumental illegality.
‘It would be recalled that the suit on the tenure determination of the reinstated All Progressives Congress (APC) council executives which was decided by the Federal High Court against the APC council chairmen and councillors is still pending in the Court of Appeal, Akure, Ondo State.
‘Should there be a breakdown of law and order, the police and other statutory security services should beam their searchlight on the purportedly selected PDP local government council chairmen and the NULGE officials in the state.’ He said.
