Akwa-Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has come under public spotlight over his claim of making not less than N10 million in a month when selling bread and akara.
Eno made the claim during his address at the September edition of the State Covenant Service at the Uyo Government House’s Banquet Hall on Wednesday.
Reflecting on his humble beginning, the governor narrated how he started the akara and bread business which he dubbed Akara Burger.
He recalled enjoying patronage of Exxon Mobil workers and recording about N10 million profit every month.
“I started selling Akara and bread. Back then, I was doing Akara Burger — we opened the bread and put Akara inside for you.
“People going to work in Exxon Mobil will buy it in the morning, take coffee.
“We started coffee shop. Every month, that Akara business and that bread use to give me not less than ₦10 million in a month.” Eno said.
The governor’s claim had however sparked mixed reactions while also reviving the controversial statement of the First Lady Oluremi Tinubu who said that the akara business is a profitable business as she encouraged Nigerians to venture into the trade.
In the same vein, Eno’s reference to the controversial business also placed him under public spotlight with some netizens trolling the governor.
‘It’s obvious he added his brain to the akara to make it more delicious Because which normal person will say he was earning 10m in akara business When even bakery owners can’t boast with 3m in their account as at 30yrs ago that he’s taking about See him head like bingo head.’ @efabulous_
‘This is serious oh! Abeg we need more evidence. Congrats to you, Pastor Umo. But your journey is also quite curved, from Akara business to Clergyman and now governor. Maybe, all the Akara sellers that I know are mismanaging their income.’ @tulechez
