However the campaign is taking off on a note of discord as five notable governors of the party are not attending.
The five PDP governors who are reported to have stayed away from the ceremony are Governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State.
The governors have been agitating for the removal of the National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu.
Already, Atiku had arrived the state capital since Sunday ahead of the rally which was preceded by a south-south stakeholders meeting.
Already, party loyalists from all parts of the country are trooping into the venue of the rally which is expected to witness speeches and promises.
The PDP ruled Nigeria from 1999 to 2015 before its president Goodluck Jonathan was ousted in an electoral contest won by the incumbent, Muhammadu Buhari.
The action of the Governors is believed to cast serious doubts over the ability of the PDP to win next year’s presidential election.
