Protesters on Thursday asked Governor Gboyega Oyetola not to create confusion in the state by removing the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun.
The protesters hit the streets carrying various placards.
The protesters came up hours after the Governor said there were attempts to incite the people against his government.
Spokesman of the Governor Ismail Omipidan, said in a statement that one Ajadi Badmus had written a letter to the Governor asking him to stay action on a process he said was non-existent.
The protesters stormed the street of Osogbo with different inscriptions on their placards “Don’t cause confusion in Osogbo”, “stop the attempt to depose Oba Jimoh”, “Efura oo, ijoba ipinle Osun Fe da rukerudo sile” “Ataoja of osogbo Is our king” and many more.
Reacting, the Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola denies the allegation as he advised the Osogbo Action Committee to stop the habit of inciting people of Osogbo against his government.
Oyetola noted that the letter asking him to drop the moves on a non- existent process was not only mischievous but also a wicked decision deliberately designed to pitch the governor and his government against the people.
He described those behind the moves as PDP’s agents in the State who chose to disguise as community leaders.
“The author of the letter, Chief Ajadi Badmus, has unfettered access to Mr. Governor. If indeed he has the best of intentions, he ought to have found out from the governor before making his spurious claims.
“Recall that Chief Badmus had also authored a similar letter shortly before the July 16 governorship election wherein he claimed that the government had relocated the Airforce Base from Osogbo to Iragbiji. The wicked lie became the major weapon the PDP agents deployed to canvass for votes in Osogbo and its environs,”he said
Oyetola stated that,he has no issues with the Ataoja adding that the stool of Ataoja is directly under the supervision of Osogbo Local Government.
“Ordinarily, the Ataoja is directly under the supervision of the Osogbo Local Government. Therefore, the governor has no business per se with his office. Besides, the governor has no issues with Ataoja,” he stated
He urged all the concerned stakeholders to investigate the matter and act based on the truth and disregard the fallacious letter.
“To this end, I appeal to leaders of thought and clerics in Osogbo to endeavor to find out the truth , know the truth and act based on the truth.
“I also urge the people to disregard the content of this fallacious letter as it does not fit the gentleman’s personality of a governor Osun people and the nation know too well,”he said
