Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi was told to his face on Thursday that his party will not win a single seat in Rivers State
Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, told Obi who was his guest in the state capital at the commissioning of the Nkpolu-Oroworukwo flyover bridge. He however said that is not to say he would not offer Obi any needed support whenever he comes around for his campaign in the state.
Wike advised Obi not to invest his funds on anyone claiming to be a candidate on the platform of Labour Party from Rivers. He said the money will amount to a total waste.
He said,”All of us know that in this state we have done well.
“Mr Presidential Candidate, your party does not have a member of National Assembly, you don’t have anybody that can run election for you here in Rivers State.
“Don’t put your money for anybody here because it will not work. You can’t win one seat here,”he said
The governor further stressed that Obi suffered humiliation when he was still a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Recall that Obi left PDP for Labour Party, LP, shortly before the PDP presidential primaries, alleging that the scheming in the party was against his personal principles.
Justifying Obi’s decision to leave the party,Governor Wike said he did not blame Obi and he would not join anybody to blame him for taking the right decision of leaving the party
He added that he(Wike) would not leave the party for those he described are “armed robbers”
“You(referring to Obi) were in our party, and I know why you left. Now let me tell you, the humiliation you suffered, I know. Most of you don’t know and nobody could hear what he passed through.
“You could not stay in the party but I will not leave. I will stay there, I will fight the vandals, I will fight the tigers, I will fight the hyenas.
“You of principle you should leave, but me I will not leave this house, I will never allow armed robbers to take over my house. I am going to stay to chase away the armed robbers,” Wike said
He described Obi as a person with high sense of integrity, humility and a very straightforward person.
Wike, however, promised to provide all the needed “logistics” support for LP anytime Obi wants to come for his presidential campaign in the state adding that they should be mindful of Order 22 in the State.
“Each time you want to campaign in the state, let me know, all the logistics support, we will give to you,” Wike promised
Obi alongside his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, and some members of the LP presidential campaign team were on ground to commission the 9th flyover, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo flyover bridge by Wike’s administration.
