The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that another of its offices nationwide has been burnt down.
The office was burnt in Oru West Local Government Area of Imo state.
Festus Okoye, INEC’s National Commissioner for Voter Education and Information said the attacks took place at aboit 4am in the early hours of Sunday.
He said in a statement that the attacks affected the conference rooms where office furniture were located while other critical facilities of the office were not affected.
The attack is coming
Days after it reported another attacks in Orlu Local Government Area of the same state.
Okoye said the attention of all security agencies has been called to the latest in the series of the attacks on INEC facilities nationwide.
Commission’s Chairman, Prof Mahmud Yakubu, has said last week that no amount of attacks would stop the conduct of the 2023 general elections.
““We may express some concern about the attack on these facilities, but it will never deter the commission from going ahead with the election as scheduled.
He said his commission would continue to engage the security agencies to stop the attacks .
“Overall, this is the 7th attack on our facilities in five States in the last four months” Said the commission.
