Amidst outcries over claims by the Governor of Osun, Ademola Adeleke over state’s alleged N407bn debt profile, the State House of Assembly has summoned relevant agencies of government to come forward to explain the true state of affairs.
NPO Reports recalls that the Governor had told traditional rulers in Osogbo, the state capital on Thursday that Governor Gboyega Oyetola left behind a staggering N407 billion debt.
He also alleged that the Governor sought and obtained a loan to the tune of N18bn shortly after losing the July 16 governorship election.
A statement signed by the House of Assembly Committee on Information Chairman, Hon. Kunle Akande, a copy of which was sighted by the NPO Reports Friday evening said the state was alarmed by the Governor’s declaration.
The statement said the declaration has also caused some concerns .
“The Assembly as the accredited representatives of the people is duty bound to seek clarifications and inform the people of the State accordingly,” the statement noted
It said with this “we have instructed the appropriate agencies of government to immediately furnish the House with the updated details of the State’s debt and financial profile.”
The statement called on all investors and business owners not to be panic over the said debt profile of the State.
NPO Reports recalls that the former Governor Oyetola, in a swift reaction on Thursday said Adeleke’s declaration was not in tandem with the reality of what he left behind.
He also faulted the claims that he took loans to the tune of N18bn.
Among agencies believed to have been summoned by the House are the Ministry of Finance, Office of the Accountant General, Debt Management Office and others.
