Host Country, Cameroon survived a scare opener as Vincent Aboubakar’s quickfire double just before half-time provides comeback victory for the team.
Burkina Faso takes on the lead in the 24th minutes of the game with a wonderful strike from Gustavo Sangare to make the team lead the game but Cameroon comeback by the captain of the team, Vincent Aboubakar in the 40th minutes and 45th minutes respectively see them leading the game in the first half and also made them defend the two goals to seed victory in their first opener game of the tournament.
The match saw Burkina Faso in the first 30 minutes dominating the game in which they also were leading but after Cameroon came back into the game they were outshined and their attacking game went down which saw the indomitable lions dominating the game more.
Cameroon and Burkina Faso are meeting for the third time in the Africa Cup of Nations. Both previous games were in the group stage, with Cameroon winning 1-0 in 1998 and drawing 1-1 in 2017.
Cameroon made its 20th participation in the Africa Cup of Nations, trailing only Egypt (25), Cote d’Ivoire (24), and Ghana (24). (23). Egypt (seven times) is the only side to have won the event more times than The Indomitable Lions (5).
Cameroon is hosting the Africa Cup of Nations for the second time, 50 years after the country hosted it for the first time in 1972, finishing third. Egypt was the last side to win the AFCON as a host country, in 2006.
The winning streak of the host in their first game will give them more confidence as they move on into their next game against Ethiopia on 13th January 2022.
