Protesters are gathering in major cities of Osun to register displeasure with Friday’s ruling of the election tribunal which sacked the Governor, Ademola Adeleke.
The tribunal had ruled that the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, who was then the incumbent, Gboyega Oyetola, was indeed the winner of the July 16, 2022 poll and not Adeleke who was confirmed the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
As early as 7am on Saturday, some of the protesters had trooped out in Osogbo, the state capital, Ede, Ilesa, Ilobu, with many of them chanting anti-Oyetola, APC songs.
In some of the placards already seen by the NPO Reports correspondent, the protesters have accused panel members of compromise in the judgement delivered on Friday.
“Awon Adajo ti gba abetele” meaning “judges have been bribed,” “We don’t want Oyetola as our Governor again,” “This is miscarriage of justice” and many others.
Some of the protesters were seen on major streets of the state capital moving along the Gbongan-Osogbo road.
There are apprehensions over possible breakdown of law and order as the NPO Reports reliably gathered that leaders of the APC and loyalists are planning a counter-rally to rejoice over the judgement of the tribunal.
As at the time of filing this report, there were no signs of security agencies deploying their operatives to man major areas of the state capital.
The police through its command spokeswoman, Yemisi Opalola only warned trouble makers ahead of the judgement on Thursday.
While the APC has commended the tribunal, the leadership f the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate have rejected the verdict.
