As violence raged in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Tuesday, Governor Dapo Abiodun, haas appealed to residents to go back home and end all forms of violence. NPO Reported earlier that one person was shot and was in critical condition when youths protested at the Asero area of the state capital.
Although, the NPO Reports could not independently verify the claims, it was gathered that some of the youths moved to burn down a branch of one of the first generation commercial banks located in the Asero area of the city.
The Governor said in a video that was posted on his verified twitter handle on Tuesday, “ Abiodun said in view of the current circumstances, he urged youths to be calm and patient as measures are underway to ensure that the situation is put under control. “As your government that is compassionate about the welfare of its people, We suspended our rallies as a means of showing empathy with the people and we have also taken further steps by engaging critical stakeholders in the banking sector, which is not limited to top officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria in Ogun State and Bankers’ Committee so as to ameliorate the suffering of our people.”

He went further, “I hereby urge our youth to continue to exhibit the Omoluabi traits we are known for in Ogun State and desist from any act of social unrest or disruption of the peace we currently enjoy in our dear State. “
