The Department of State Service late Thursday confirmed arrest of two suspects in Kano who were on a mission to carry out an attack in one of the Northern states of the Federation.
The DSS, in a statement made available to the NPO Reports, said the two men were arrested in Kano with various firearms concealed.
The Service said the discovery called for vigilance among Nigerians as they mark the end of Ramadan.
”The suspects were on transit to deliver the arms for a planned attack in one of the States in Northern Nigeria. This development underscores the need for citizens to be extra vigilant and report any unusual or suspicious movements, persons or acts to the security agencies.” DSS stated
According to the service, items recovered from the suspects include Two (2) AK-47 assault rifles;
ii. Two (2) Empty AK47 Magazines;
iii. A red boxer motor cycle;
iv. A sack of yams in which the guns were concealed.
According to Dr. Peter Ifunaya, spokesman of the Department, the DSS is poised to
work with sister security agencies to ensure no attack takes place during the eid period.
“Operators and patrons of fun, hospitality and tourism centres are enjoined to be cautious during the festive periods. They should scale up measures to ensure safety of their facilities.
However, the Service wishes the Muslim faithful, peaceful and joyous. Eid al-fitr celebrations. It pledges to work with sister agencies and other stakeholders to emplace adequate security during and after the events.
