The Federal Government on Sunday flaunted its newly acquired fire fighting equipment at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja after the equipment were deploying to preventing tragedy after the Max Air mishap.
NPO Reported earlier that the aircraft had recorded an emergency landing after one of its tyres burst forcing the pilot coming from Yola to make emergency landing.
It was gathered that the tyre had burst into fire after the emergency landing causing panic in the entire aviation industry in the country.
No life was lost in the incident.
It was learnt that officials of the fire department of the airport had swung into action and stopped the fire from consuming the aircraft and endangering the lives of the passengers.
“Kudos to the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire-fighting Service (ARFFS) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, for the prompt response to the plane tyre fire incident that occurred today. Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria’s newly-acquired fire fighting equipment were promptly deployed,” Rabiu Yadudu, Managing Director of the FAAN was quoted as saying
He went further, “We are promising airport users that Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria will continue to prioritise safety and security at the nation’s airports.”
He stated that the construction of the second runway for Airport, Abuja, is also underway. “Contract was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in 2022. When completed it will, make Abuja [Airport] safer and more efficient.”
Recall there were controversies over the cost stated by the Ministry of Aviation for acquiring the new fire equipment last month.
