Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has met President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Villa.
Emefiele was among top government officials who received the new President at the villa as he resumed office on Tuesday. Others who received him were Vice President Kashim Shettima; President of the senate Ahmed Lawan, Speaker House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and others. It was the first time the CBN Governor was meeting Tinubu after the swearing in after the Naira swap debacle that started since last year.
The apex bank had commenced a new naira policy in the wake of the campaign for elections last year with Tinubu publicly declaring that the Naira change was aimed to frustrating his campaigns.
Emefiele’s name had featured among those presidency officials fingered as making attempts to frustrate Tinubu’s government in a statement released two weeks ago by Governor of Zamfara, Bello Matawalle. Specifically, Matawalle had asked then President Muhamadu Buhari, to stop Emefiele from travelling abroad in order to render accounts over the controversial new naira notes at the time.
