The Government of Ondo state has said its Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, is not dead.
The clarification became necessary after days of speculations over the Governor’s health. There have been reports in some quarters of the death of the Governor.
Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, his Commissioner for Information, in a statement released on Saturday said the government has been bombarded by inquiries over the state of health of the Governor.
“We have been inundated with calls and messages concerning the state of health of the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON. We had chosen to ignore this wicked fabrication until it appeared that certain persons seek to draw political mileage from the disinformation.
“Though, the Governor has been indisposed, he has been attending to state matters and delegating functions to functionaries of the Government, when necessary.
“We enjoin the members of the public to ignore the rumour. Aketi is very much alive,” the commissioner wrote
NPO Reports that the governor has been out of public glare in recent times with the most noticeable being his absence at the Monday May 29 swearing in of the new President, Bola Tinubu.
Tongues wagged especially during the final burial of the mother of the Governor in Ibadan the Oyo state capital when he was seen in a very fragile frame having emaciated.
Competent sources told the NPO Reports at the weekend that the condition of the Governor became critical by the middle of the middle promoting his admission at a Lagos popular elite hospital.
According to one of the sources who pleaded annonimity, Akeredolu was flown out of Nigeria Thursday night and is currently in Germany.
“He is not dead but critically ill. He was in St. Nicholas till Thursday but he was flown to Germany. He is alive and said to be responding to treatment well,: the source said.
