The new governor of Kano State, Kabir Abba-Yussuf has ordered the demolition of one of the iconic structures built by his predecessor, Abdulahi Umaru Ganduje. The demolition of the roundabouts, which is a stone throw from the Government House was constructed as part of Ex-Governor Ganduje’s beautification projects while in office.
It was not known the main reason for the demolition but NPO Reports that the action might not be unconnected with moves by the new governor to undo many of the actions of Ganduje. Gov Abba Yusuff was elected on the platform of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, a party that came out as one of rebellion against the Peoples Democratic Party. Its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, contested for the presidency on the platform of the same party. He has since met President Bola Tinubu, who is an ally of the former Governor, Ganduje. Already, the action of the Governor has sparked controversies with many condemning it as a deliberate act of waste of resources and demonstration of vendetta.
While many are condemning the action, some of the supporters of the governor are claiming the structure has been causing accidents in the centre of the city. “This is the exactly difference between kano state and yours. My governor is working for 24 hours try to build a better city. hypocrisy won’t let you to keep quiet. the dangers of this roundabout. You can’t view the axis clearly, always causing accidents. Yan wahala,” wrote one of Abba’s supporters, who goes by the name Sadiq_Tamte__on twitter with the handle, @sadiq_tamte. But Another commentator condemning the action said the governor is wasting resources. The commentator by the name Mahmoud Bichi, with the handle @BichiMahmoud, “As a town planner, real estate developer, investment promoter and supporter of the KWANKWASIYYA movement……I condemn the demolition of this edifice in which ever guise by Kano State Government. It is ill-timed and a waste of scarce public resources,”
