The former President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Prof Dipo Fasina, has been found.
The Nigerian Diaspora Commission made the disclosure through a statement it posted on its twitter handle Sunday afternoon.
NPO Reported earlier that Fasina, popularly called Jingo, was missing since July 1 while on his way to Algeria.
In the terse statement, NiDCOM stated, “He has been found. The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, in collaboration with the Nig high commission in Turkey, has successfully located Prof Fasina who went missing for a few days at Istanbul Airport while connecting on a flight back home. Mr. Fasina, 76, was traveling to Algeria when he was said to have missed his connecting flight from Istanbul, Turkey.”
The commission did not however give details of Fasina’s circumstances and what led him to become incommunicado.
Fasina, who had taught Philosophy at the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife, is also known to be a human and Labour rights activist.
His tenure as president of ASUU had witness serious confrontation with government over the welfare and funding of universities.
He was to later set up the Philosophy Department of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Ago Iwoye in Ogun state.
Fasina was said to be in his way to Algeria as aguest of the North African country.
