The Adamawa Police Command have detained a man suspected to be terrorist who was arrested at the Yola, Adamawa state residence of the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.
Along with the man was also another suspect who was believed to be acting in conjunction with the suspect. NPO Reports that the duo were said to have confessed to a mission to bomb the residence of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the last general election and the Central Mosque Yola.
In a statement by his media office on Monday, Atiku confirmed that the police have arrest four suspects in the plot to attack his residence.
The statement reads: “We wish to alert the Nigerian public that at about 9:44 pm on Sunday, 23 July, 2023 a man seeking to confirm the residence of His Excellency Atiku Abubakar in Yola was apprehended at the gate of the residence. “The man who was apprehended by security operatives at the residence of Atiku Abubakar was later handed over to the police.
“Upon further interrogation by the Police, the suspect identified himself as a 29 year-old Jubrila Mohammed and confessed to being a Boko Haram member from Damboa in Borno State.
“The suspect also informed the Police that he and his colleagues, who were later arrested too, intended to attack organisations associated with Atiku Abubakar and some other sensitive locations in Yola.
“All four suspects have been handed over to military authorities.
“We commend the police for the work that they continue to do in this particular investigation.
“We further ask that other relevant security agencies remain on top of their brief.” Reno Omokri, a former aide to former president Goodluck Jonathan, had raised the alarm when he said a man who was initially thought to be mentally disturbed was later found to have a different mission at the residence of the former Vice President. Omokri had posted “Yesterday, Sunday, July 23, 2023, at about 9 PM, a man acting suspiciously was detected at Waziri Atiku’s residence in Yola. Due to his erratic behaviour, he was accosted and restrained. The suspect, Jubrila Mohammed, was immediately taken to the police station and interrogated. During his interrogation, he confessed to being a member of the dreaded Boko Haram sect. He revealed a plot to bomb Waziri Atiku’s residence, along with faculties at the American University of Nigeria, Yola, as well as the Modibbo Adama Central Mosque. The suspect is now with the State CID of the Adamawa Police Command.”
