The Chief Coroner of the Lagos state Judiciary, Justice Mojisola Dada, has fixed September 27 as the date for the opening of coroner’s inquest into the circumstances that led to the death of popular singer, Oladimeji Ilerioluwa Aloba, mostly known as Mohbad.
In the letter dated September 26, and signed by the Coroner assigned to the case, Magistrate T.A. Shotobi, it was revealed that the circumstances of the death requires the convocation of an inquest pursuant to the extant provisions of S. 14 & 15 of the CORONER’S SYSTEM LAW of Lagos State, 2015.
A preliminary hearing has now been fixed for Friday 28 September, 2023, at the Magistrate Court 3 Candide Johnson Court, Ikorodu, by 12:00 noon.
This is sequel to a letter from the chambers of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana to the office of the Chief Coroner over the controversial death which was said to have occurred in the Ikorodu area of the state.
The letter read in part: “I have the directive of the Chief Coroner, Lagos State, Justice Mojisola Dada, to notify your good office of the lordship’s order to convoke an inquest into death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (a.k.a. Mohbad).
“The inquest will take place at 12. 00 p.m. in Court Three,Candide-Johnson Courthouse, Ita-Elewa, in Ikorodu, Lagos.
“We solicit your kind assistance in ensuring the attendance of your office.”
Falana had on Sept.18 requested for a coroner’s inquest into the death of the late musician.
Falana made the request following the controversial death of the musician on Sept. 12 and his burial the following day.
Falana’s request for the inquest was contained in a letter to the chief coroner of High Court of Lagos State, Ikeja.
Mohbad, who has suddenly emerged the 46th most selling singer in the world, died on September 12, 2023 in circumstances believed to be questionable.
His remains were buried less than 24 hours after in a development that raised further questions.
He was believed to be in a strained relationship with the boss of the Marlian Records, Naira Marley before his death.
Mohbad was believed to have come under series of attacks leading to injuries and fear.
