The organised Labour Wednesday evening agreed with the Federal Government to put on hold its indefinite nationwide strike.
The decision was announced by the National Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress on Wednesday saying the suspension followed the intervention of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
The meeting had started at about 7 pm lasting for close to one hour during which various affiliates and state chapters reviewed the outcome of the meeting held between the leaders of the organised labour and Ribadu.
The National Deputy Vice-President of the TUC, Tommy Etim, said, “The NEC of the NLC and the TUC have suspended the strike. We did this based on our trust for the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who gave us his words,” he said.
Trouble started three weeks ago afterAjaero, with other labour leaders had on November 1 stormed Owerri, Imo State capital to lead a rally in protest against the State government over alleged violation of rights of workers in the State.
But before the rally started, the labour leader was arrested by the police and beaten by the political thugs allegedly attached to the Governor of the state, Hope Uzodinma.
The Labour had insisted that the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties Chinasa Nwaneri be arrested and prosecuted.
