The South-West All Progressive Congress has vowed to resist any form of imposition of candidates on it few days to the national convention of the party holding in Abuja on Saturday.
A statement by the Commissioner for Information Ondo State, Donald Ojogo on Sunday said Ondo State and indeed the South West has agreed on former state chairman, Isaac Kekemeke for the position of National Vice Chairman.
He said Kekemeke has the full backing of Governor Akeredolu and his brother governors in the South-west.
The statement said, “It should be noted that critical stakeholders in the south-west had earlier micro-zoned the positions that were brought to the region. Among them were the National Vice Chairman which was retained in Ondo and the Secretary which was microzoned to the Oyo/Osun axis.
“So Kekemeke’s aspiration is not just an Ondo project; it’s a southwest project. Those who are peddling other stories as national secretary outside Oyo and Osun axis are instruments in the hands of external forces who are desirous to create division in South west in order to impose persons on the Party.
“What we are going for is national vice chairman with Kekemeke as our candidate and not national secretary. Those outside the southwest who are attempting to microzone our offices are only creating unnecessary confusion”.
There are indications that chieftains of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change in the APC, such as former Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu are being touted as possible candidates for the position.
There are indications that the CPC elements within the APC are rooting for former chieftains of the CPC, one of the parties that formed the APC to take major positions of the party at the convention on Saturday.
