The Nigerian Super Eagles were on Sunday forced to a a 1-1 draw in the their opening match in the ongoing African Cup of Nations tournament.
It was a tension-soaked contest between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea as both went home with one goal each.
It was Salvador who opened the goal at 36th minute when he forced the ball behind the Nigerian goalkeeper.
The celebration for the goal was however shortlived Super Eagles equalized less than two minutes after.
Following Ivory Coast’s 2-0 victory against Guinea Bissau yesterday in Group A opener, the Super Eagles were tipped to victory over Guinea Bissau’s sister nation.
However, Peseiro’s star-studded team could only share the spoiler with Equatorial Guinea.
As against expectations, Equatorial Guinea took the lead few minutes into the match courtesy Iban Salvador’s 36th minute opener.
The Super Eagles would, however, responded two minutes after as a Victor Osimehn’s header put the West African country on level.
Despite recording seven shots on target across 90 minutes as against Equatorial Guinea’s one shot on target, the Super Eagles had to settle for a draw as they failed to find the back of the net after the equalizer.
