Nicolas Jackson came off the bench to help Senegal get their AFCON campaign off to a winning start with victory over Gambia.
The Lions of Teranga were comfortable against Gambia and deserved winners in the Ivory Coast sunshine, with a 3-0 victory securing the three points.
Pape Gueye opened the scoring after just four minutes before Lamine Camara took centre stage with a second-half brace. Gambia, meanwhile, were reduced to 10 men in first-half injury time following a red card shown to Ebou Adams.
Senegal celebrate in Ivory Coast
His first was a fine finish, with the midfielder surging forward before slotting the ball confidently into the bottom corner, before adding his second and Senegal’s third in the closing stages.
Chelsea striker Jackson joined the action in the second half and looked solid, although was unable to add to the scoring on this occasion.
Jackson played as the central striker and looked sharp in and out of possession in the Group C fixture. Senegal are next in action on Friday evening when they take on Cameroon.
