Super Eagles of Nigeria secured a narrow 1-0 win over host nation, Ivory Coast, at the ongoing African Cup of Nations tournament.
The Nigerian team had, in a fierce West African derby, kept their hope of lifting their fourth AFCON trophy alive as they scaled through the Ivorian test this evening at Alassanne Outtara stadium.
Following a frustrating goalless first-half, the Peseiro-led Eagles waited till the 55th minute to break the deadlock courtesy Troost Ekong’s goal.
The Nigerian skipper had put the team into the lead with a well-converted penalty kick.
Meanwhile, the win against Ivory Coast sees Nigeria climbed second on Group A table with four points.
