A manager of a Joint Admission and Matriculations Board CBT manager has been arrested after he allegedly stole the phone number of a 15 year old candidate and started private chats with her.
The mother of the female candidate who was chatting with the man, said rather than her daughter’s phone line, she had used her own number to register the daughter for the forthcoming JAMB examination.
To her surprise, she started getting chats from the man who also told her daughter not to let her mother know of the chat.
The mother, by name Iphie Ajike and with an X handle @iphieajike, had cried out that data protection in JAMB registration was poor lamenting how many other candidates may have come under such illicit chats by those who steal their numbers from their registration details.
“The guy has been arrested. Him and his accomplice, the guy that registered my child are currently in custody!” she disclosed hours after she came online to blow the matter up.
After her revelation, it was gathered that JAMB had instituted an immediate investigation into the matter leading to the arrest of the man chatting with the female candidate and the other person whom the mother called his accomplice.
“JAMB takes data privacy and candidate safety very seriously,” a spokesperson for the exam board stated. “We are committed to working with the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and hold those responsible accountable. We reiterate that there is zero tolerance for any behavior that compromises the integrity of our processes or the well-being of our candidates.” JAMB said
