There are fears of epidemic over the number of internally displaced persons in Bauchi state after they were displaced from Plateau state.
The National Emergency Management Agency said IT’s officials have enumerated at least 9,792 displaced persons majority of who the agency said are women and children.
NPO Reports that many were displaced from Bokos, Mangu and Barkin Ladin in Plateau state aftermath of killings that took place.
NEMA said of immediate concerns are the health of the displaced persons who lack health care facilities.
NEMA said it’s intervention followed requests from the communities where the displaced people are adding that the head of the Agency led a team to the communities to see things physically.
“The Head of Operations, NEMA Gombe Operatiins Office, Ummuna Ahmed, led a team to assess the situation in Tafawa Balewa, Das, Bogoro, and Bauchi metropolitan LGAs in Bauchi state.
“Preliminary findings indicate that 2,816 IDPs reside with host communities in Bogoro, Tafawa Balewa and Das, while 6,976 are with host communities in Bauchi metropolitan.
“The challenges include the urgent need for shelter, food, and drinking water for the IDPs.
“Observations highlight a potential outbreak of communicable diseases due to the lack of portable drinking water, with a notable concentration of affected individuals being women and children.” The agency said
