In its determination to rid Nasarawa state of ,criminals, the state Police Command on Tuesday raided a suspected kidnappers den in Nasarawa Eggon and arrested 109 illegal miners in the area.
In compliance with the directive of the State Police Commissioner, Umar Shehu Nadada, the operation was carried out by Police in collaboration with the Vigilante Group.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Ranham Nansel, kidnappers had deserted all the camps before the arrival of the operatives.
He said the CP had directed the Command’s Anti-kidnapping unit in collaboration with the Vigilante group of Nasarawa Eggon LGA to embark on a massive raid of kidnappers’ den located at Alogani mountains, a hide out of the kidnappers terrorizing the residents of the state.
The operation stretches from Mada station to Wakama, a mountainous area where the criminals (kidnappers), use as a hideout to keep their victims until ransom is paid.
He noted that 109 persons suspected to be illegal miners were arrested at different locations on the mountain carrying out illegal mining of solid minerals such as Topaz, Tin, and Aquamarine, adding that dane gun, cutlasses, knives illegally mined solid minerals among others were recovered from the suspects as exhibit.
“The suspected miners have been profiled and investigation is ongoing. Commissioner of Police has ordered continuous clampdown on criminal hideouts in the state”. The PPRO declared
