The United Kingdom on Monday announced that henceforth, health workers will not be allowed to bring their dependants to the country. The United Kingdom’s Home Office, via its X handle on Monday said the move was to achieve a big cut in the size of immigrants coming into the country.
“From today, care workers entering the UK on Health and Care Worker visas can no longer bring dependants,” the Home office said The United Kingdom is seen as one of the most preferred destinations for Nigerian health workers who seek greener pastures. By implication, many health workers who seek relocation with the hope of better education for children may change plans either to travel alone or abandon such plans. The Nigerian health sector has suffered huge brain drains in particular with many doctors, pharmacists, nurses and care givers leaving in droves.
