- Agency Report
A former Commandant of the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr. Paul Ayeni, has highlighted how insecurity in the country can be halted.
He stated the need for effective intelligence gathering in tackling insecurity across the nation.
Ayeni made the call while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta.
According to him, many criminal activities are nurtured and perfected in public places like markets, club houses, beer palours and other relaxation centres.
He, therefore, called on security agencies to ensure that undercovers were deployed in such places for information gathering to enhance the fight against insecurity.
Ayeni, who is also the Chairman of EcoSafe Guards, a security outfit, advised security agencies to obtain updated list and addresses of such relaxation centres for effective monitoring.
” The beer parlours, markets, swimming pools , hotels and other public centres must have professional undercovers.
” The undercovers who are professionals and skillful in information gathering, will feed the government and security agencies with necessary tips and information for prompt actions.
” This will enable the security agencies to always be a step ahead of the criminals, foil their plans and thereby prevent vices like kidnapping, robbery, banditry and killings, ” he said.
“Additionally, rural communities must have professional undercovers and informants whose identities and particulars must be protected, ” he said.
He further advised that functional security cameras should be hung at flash points in various communities across the nation.
Ayeni condemned the recent kidnapping of pupils and teachers of a public school in Kaduna state.
