A man who was accused of breaking into a compound and vandalised a car has been set ablaze in Lagos by a member of the vigilante group.
The incident, which reportedly happened at the Itire area of Lagos, had led to men of the Police Command in Lagos State to arrest the vigilante official responsible for the burning of the suspect.
The suspect was said to have been arrested after the owner of the car raised an alarm leading to his apprehension.
However, after handing him over to the vigilante, the car owner and other members of the community were amazed to find the suspect being burnt alive by the vigilante.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest saying that the Itire Police Division got a distress call early morning Monday at about 5.00 a.m. from a resident.
He said that the resident, who claimed to live at Shonde Street, Itire, reported that some thieves came and vandalised his car and after raising an alarm, one suspect was arrested.
The image maker said that the suspect was handed over to a local security vigilante in charge of the street (name withheld).
“The complainant further stated that to his surprise, the thief he handed over to the vigilante alive has been set ablaze instead of taking him to police station for proper investigation.
“The vigilante personnel has been arrested and investigation is ongoing,” he said.
